The Belfast Road Underpass was constructed using the Box Jacking technology. The Via Rail north track was kept active for train traffic by the installation of a temporary bridge that held the track during the push of the Box underneath it.
The Box was jacked at a temperature of
-25°C (-13°F). The jacking of the Belfast Underpass is part of the Ottawa Light Rail Transit project and specifically is part of the Maintenance and Storage Facility Access.
